1943
Averett students sold $15,000 in war bonds to purchase parachutes for the war effort.

Averett students of the 1940's hummed the popular songs of the era, "I'll Be Seeing You," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," and dressed in their best attire for the Wednesday evening candlelight dinners.

1945
The Annex was enlarged and its name changed to Davenport Hall, in honor of former Averett Trustee Charles L. Davenport.

1946
Twenty-five veterans enrolled as day students under the G. I. Bill of Rights. By 1947, forty men were enrolled. The veterans formed a fraternity, Gamma Phi Nu, and wrote columns "Those Versatile Vets" and "Male Call" for The Chanticleer.
