Twenty-One Area Graduates Named Educator of the Year

Averett University is proud to announce that 16 of its education graduates were named "Educator of the Year" in Danville/Pittsylvania County for 2009-2010. Three graduates teaching in the Caswell County, N.C. School System; one graduate from the Rockingham County, N.C. School System; and one from the Martinsville Public School System also garnered teacher of the year honors.

Area graduates who were named Educator of the Year are: John K. Barbour, '98, a mathematics teacher at W.W. Moore Jr. Juvenile Detention Home; Amy T. Baynes, '05, a sixth grade math teacher at Westwood Middle School; Ramona M. Booker, '85, a physical education teacher at Glenwood Elementary School; Judith M. Brown, '86, a kindergarten teacher at G.L.H. Johnson Elementary School; Michele L. Clark, '94, a kindergarten teacher at Schoolfield Elementary School; Robin L. Jackson, '97, a third grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School; Joan H. Reynolds, '84, a Title I specialist at Irwin W. Taylor Elementary School; Leslie C. Barksdale, '02, a third grade teacher at Brosville Elementary School; Laverne R. Boykin, '73, a sixth grade history teacher at Chatham Middle School; Sally A. Clements, '72, an English teacher at Gretna High School; Karen B. Conner, '09, a social studies teacher at Chatham High School; Amy C. Emond, '91, a teacher at Chatham Elementary School; Tammy M. Gauldin, '96, '06, a science teacher at Dan River High School; Adrian E. Nester, '01, '03, a tenth grade English teacher at Tunstall High School; Jamie L. Yancey, '02, a third grade teacher at Stony Mill Elementary School; Cindy Y. Young, '92, a third grade teacher at Twin Springs Elementary School.

Joan H. Reynolds was also named the 2009-10 Danville Public Schools Elementary Educator of the Year; Adrian E. Nester, '01, '03, was also named the 2009-10 Pittsylvania County High School Educator of the Year; and Cindy Y. Young, '92, was also named the 2009-10 Pittsylvania County Elementary School Educator of the Year.

The teachers from Caswell County who were recognized are Michele A. Bouchard, '04, a kindergarten teacher at Oakwood Elementary School; Cynthia D. McNeill, '97, a first grade teacher at North Elementary School; and Robert L. Mise, '06, a fifth grade teacher at South Elementary School. The teacher from Rockingham County teacher who was recognized is Michelle L. Robinson, '97, a fourth grade teacher at Draper Elementary School. Crystal R. Wyatt, '00, a third grade teacher in Martinsville, was named Educator of the Year for Albert Harris Elementary School.
