Burton Speaks to UK Football Association
June 22, 2010
Dr. Lee Burton, associate professor of physical education, wellness and sport science and head of Averett University's athletic training program recently taught a workshop to the Football Association of the United Kingdom during their annual meeting May 29-30. Burton, who was invited to speak to the association, spent two days working with the FA staff - more than 92 soccer/football clubs were represented.
Burton led a team of instructors, focusing on injury prevention and performance enhancement. The workshop incorporated the Functional Movement Screening System (FMS), which is based on the Functional Movement Screen, a test created by Gray Cook, who also teaches at Averett. Burton and Cook have refined the system into a very user friendly performance enhancement and injury prevention tool. FMS is designed to identify fundamental movement weaknesses and then prescribe corrective strategies to improve them. It has been successfully implemented in numerous professional organizations (NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL) and military units.
Burton has been invited to speak to the FA again at the grand opening of their National Football Center.
The FA is the regulatory body of soccer/football for youth to the Premier League in the UK.
