Alumni Association Board Welcomes New Members

July 2, 2010

Averett University's Alumni Association Board has welcomed six new members. There are 18 alumni who serve on the board for a period of three years. Members are nominated by fellow alumni and then the board votes to accept the nomination.

New to the board are:

  • Matt Bonham, '07, is a network contracting specialist at Liberty Medical Supply. An Eagle Scout, Bonham graduated from Averett with a master's degree in business administration through the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Program. He lives in Vinton.

  • Julie Lochridge, '55, has served on the board in the past. She lives in Raleigh and has been actively working on leading a Raleigh Chapter for Averett alumni.

  • Fairy Pointer, '76, is a retired social worker from Alton. She worked for Social Services in Halifax County. She is very active with her church and its association.

  • LaToya Skinner, '08, is a school suspension teacher in Virginia Beach. She received her bachelor of business administration degree through the university's GPS Program.

  • Faith Stamps, '94, '03, is the community impact director at the United Way for Danville/Pittsylvania County. A Danville resident, she just finished a year's term as state governor of the Pilot Club. She received her bachelor's degree and a master of education degree from Averett.

  • Andrew Wall, '92, runs Chatham Communications and the Columns Bed and Breakfast in Chatham.

Alumni board members are charged with engaging fellow alumni in a way that benefits the university, students and the alumni. Their most recent success was endowing an Alumni Legacy Scholarship that will be available to the child or grandchild of any Averett alumnus.
